Summary: Glad I Bought It
Comment: I really like my clothesline! I hung it between my privacy fence and my deck, and it's the perfect spot for it; I like that when I'm entertaining, I can just let it retract and it's out of sight.

That said, it could be better designed as far as the retraction goes.

The problem comes in when you're not using the full 40 ft. When open and in use, you have to loop it around the little pedicle at the bottom of the housing to keep it from retracting and to keep the line taut. However, looping it around and keeping the line super-taut at the same time is nearly impossible, so the line does sag a little too much. Because I hung the line so high up, it's okay as long as I double my sheets when hanging them, but otherwise they would drag on the ground. In effect, it takes longer for sheets to dry.

I would recommend using this clothesline, and I plan on purchasing another one of these. But I think the manufacturer should consider fixing this little glitch.

Summary: There's a trick to tensioning the clothesline.
Comment: A few reviewers have commented that you need to pull the clothesline out all the way or it sags. If you look on the bottom of the unit, there's a little knob that resembles the cleats to which you tie up boats on docks. Just wrap it around 3/4 of a turn and the clothesline will stay plenty tight. I have a feeling this also reduces the wear and tear on the spring inside the unit and that it might last longer as a result.

Summary: Bad locking mechanism
Comment: This is a fairly well made and affordable laundry line. I'd be very pleased with it, but its line-locking mechanism is insufficient. It's designed so that you tuck the line around a little catch, but this friction hold is insufficient to suspend the weight of a normal laundry load. You put a pair of jeans on the line and the line slips and sags to the ground... every time. This design could be corrected if they were to add one or two more friction points to wrap the line around.

I think I'll keep it and add some hooks myself to make up for what the product lacks. I'm hoping this will fix the problem. They really need to deal with this, because as it stands, as much as I'd like to, I could not recommend this product to anyone.

Summary: GREAT CLOTHES LINE
Comment: Very sturdy, easy to use. I only need 30 feet of line and I like that it can be taken down when we move. I attached it to our house and then the other end with the hooks provided to a tree. Line stays tight by wrapping the line around the bottom built in hook. I am very happy, it does sag when I have a full load on it, but so did my old stationary clothes line.

Summary: Works Fine
Comment: I've used mine this whole summer and it is holding up just fine. A prior review mentions that the line does not stay taught. I experienced the same until I re-read the directions and now I have no problems.
